Dutch Apple and Raisin Bagel from Panera
Description from Panera Website:
Chunks of apples, cinnamon, molasses & raisins baked inside, topped with sweet walnut streusel.
First Impressions/New Bagel Name:
The crunchy-apple bagel.
Flavor:
It is quite a well balanced flavor, definitely sweet, but also fruity. I think this would be a good bagel for an afternoon snack, rather than a breakfast bagel.
Color:
The top of the bagel is densely covered with streusel. The bagel lacks a hole in the middle, but otherwise appears typical.
Texture:
The apple chunks keep the bagel moist and soft.
Bagel Top vs. Bagel Bottom:
The top and bottom have very different flavors. The top section is mostly overwhelmed by streusel, which is delicious. The bottom is more subtle, tasting of apple.
Nutritional Value:
This bagel rates a 16, due to its very high sugar content.
Schmeer Rating:
2 out of 5 schmeers.

Einstein Bros. - Powerbagel
The Powerbagel from Einstein Bros.
First Impression/New Bagel Name:
This is less a bagel than a mini-loaf of bread.
Flavor:
It tastes like a little brick of goodness, so wholesome it makes me think of hippie co-ops. I believe this bagel would be complimented well by the addition of jam or honey. The single most noticeable flavor is that of pumpkin seeds.
Color:
The bagel has a dark wheaty bread appearance, with many seeds and grains visible. The seed content was so high that birds could be seen circling hungerly overhead.
Texture:
This bagel had the dense texture of a good wheat bread.
Bagel Top vs. Bagel Bottom:
The bottom of the bagel was slightly drier and denser than the top, but this does not negatively impact the bagels taste.
Nutritional Value:
This bagel rates a 6, higher than one would expect due a surprisingly large sugar content. Einstein Bros seems to be trying to market this as a health food, giving it the "powerbagel" name. I have to say that after eating it, I did feel a slight surge in power.
Schmeer Rating:
3 Schmeers out of 5.
